Evolution of My Build: 2019 – 2023

Posted on May 1, 2023May 1, 2023 by Michael Molenda

Looking back, my build has been through many upgrades. There is barely anything left from my original build. I want to go back through time and look at my build through the years. I did my original build in April 2019.

Here are the specs of my original build:

CPU: Ryzen 5 2400G
Motherboard: MSi B450M Gaming Plus
CPU Cooler: Stock Cooler
RAM: 8GB Patriot Viper (Red)
Storage: Adata SU800 128GB 2.5” SSD (OS)
Mass Storage: WD 1TB 3.5” HDD
PSU: Corsair VS650 PSU replaced by Enermax Revolution II 750W PSU
GPU: No graphics card
Case: Raidmax Neon Case

V1 (April 2019)
This is version 1 build. A new version occurs when I change cases.

My desk. Yes, a shoe box as a monitor riser and a TV as a monitor.

V1.1 (April 2019) LED Fans – Red White and Blue. I’m patriotic.

V1.2 (June 2019) I got a graphics card – a Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX580. Plus a new CPU cooler.

V1.3 (June 2019) New RAM. Upgraded to 16GB.

V2 (December 2019)
Version 2: New Case – Gamdias Talos

V2.1 (January 2020) GameMax CPU Cooler. Fun fact: The new cooler fan was RGB but I had no headers on my motherboard. This is foreshadowing …

V2.2 (May 2020) Changed to liquid cooling using the MSi CoreLiquid 240mm. Since my motherboard does not have aRGB, I needed to have an aRGB controller.

V2.3 (July 2020) Updated Star Wars theme. I never liked the Gamdias logo on the case so I printed something to overlay the logo.

V3 (December 2020)
New case. This is my current case. The NZXT H510 (White). I built in it a few times at Fry’s and I said if I ever built a PC, I’d have that case. It took a while, but I finally got it. I probably won’t be changing anytime soon.

V3.1 (December 2020) Upgraded video card. This to the ASUS Dual AMD RX5600XT which is my current card. This may be updated again next. GPU prices are a little high at the moment, though.

V3.2 (March 2022) Upgraded CPU. From the Ryzen 5 1600X (I upgraded from the Ryzen 5 2400G somewhere along the way… I got one from Fry’s for $15 as it was a few years old at that time…) to the Ryzen 5 5600X. This is my current CPU.

V3.3 (April 2022) This is the current version of my build. Upgraded the motherboard to a full ATX B550 motherboard with features that my MSi didn’t have. Like 2 M.2 slots instead of 1. aRGB headers. More fan headers. 4 DIMM Slots instead of 2. Better VRM solutions for overclocking. PCIe 4.0 over PCIe 3.0.

Again with the patriotism until after Memorial Day. The lights kinda look red and purple and that’s because they are red and blue and as we know, they make purple… And I like my Coke Zero.

After all of that, here are my current specs.

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus B550 Elite V1
CPU Cooler: MSi CoreLIquid 240mm AIO (V2)
RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX (White)
Storage: Crucial 1TB P5 Plus PCIe 4 SSD (OS)
Mass Storage: WD 250GB NVMe PCIe 3 SSD
Mass Storage: Adata SU800 128GB 2.5” SSD *
Mass Storage: WD 1TB 3.5” HDD *
Mass Storage: Seagate 2TB 3.5” HDD
PSU: Enermax Revolution II 750W PSU *
GPU: AMD RX 5600XT GPU (Asus Dual)
Case: NZXT H510 Case

*indicates hardware that I still have

This the full evolution of my system
This is what makes PC building so exciting. How you can take a build from good to great.
