Bama’s Story

So, here is her story. We adopted Bama from Cats in the Cradle Cat Rescue in 2009. She was originally named “Sushi“. I was told that she was the “meanest cat alive” by the previous owner who only had her for 24 hours and returned her to Cats in the Cradle. Dana saw her on the their website and knew that is the cat she wanted. I emailed to make sure Sushi would be at the local adoption day at the Pet Smart. She was going to be there. Great. I went to the Pet Smart and yup, she was there. I did pet other cats but I kept going back to Sushi. I adopted her.

We certainly did not want to keep that name. Dana came up with Bama (flows well with Bella… Bella and Bama and we are both from Alabama… so, it was just natural). Plus, my favorite college football team is the Alabama Crimson Tide.

This is one of the first pictures of Bella and Bama. Bella is not pleased.

It did take Bama awhile to get fully trusting of us. We also had to learn what she was comfortable with and what she was uncomfortable with. She does not like to be picked up. Not then and not ever. She never wore a collar. We broke her of that. She didn’t like it at first but she accepted it. She did try to kick it off but it wouldn’t budge. Haha, Bam, we broke you! 🙂

Here are some random pictures of this beautiful cat.

She was so vocal and spry. You could have a conversation with her. “What are you doing, Bam?” MEEEOW. She really loved to “converse” with you. She was a bundle of fun and life. That is what I will miss the most. In the last couple of years, she became a lap cat. She would get up in my face and but her head up against mine. She was just so sweet.

She loved fires. She looked forward to me building a fire in the winter. She would watch me build the fire. She loved Christmas trees. She would always lay under the tree. We had to make a spot for her to lay. That was her favorite time of the year. And if there is a Christmas tree AND a fire, she was in heaven. She was definitely a unique cat.

But this last Tuesday, she left us. She was here one minute and gone the next. Such a sudden and unexpected death. It has really hurt me more than I thought it would. She has left quite a hole in this home.

Rest In Peace, Bama Kitty. 2005 – 2021
