As I reflect on the four years (four years! An entire presidential term?) at Kohl’s, one thing remained the same: my work ethic. I never base how hard I work by how much I earn. I work just as hard for Kohl’s and a “retail salary” as I ever did at NextGen or Bank of America with a “professional salary”.
I wanted to take a look back of some of my work at Kohl’s just to see how far I have come there as well as how much pride I take in my work. The pride I take in my work is a reflection of me. In addition, the more pride I take in my work and how hard I work to make a difference will be reflected in sales. It is pretty evident that a well-kept and organized store will have better sales than a store that has “ratty looking” shelves where customers can’t find anything. I always wanted my section to be the best in the store to show my appreciation for being able to come to work everyday.
Here are some examples of my work (aka my merchandising skills) …

I thought I had more pictures than this, but I think this is enough examples of my work ethic and my merchandising skills. I am very proud of the work I did at Kohl’s. I hope the merchandiser that follows me takes as much pride as I did and does it even better than I did. I think that whoever it is shouldn’t just try to replicate what I do, but to exceed what I have done. I exceeded the work that my predecessor did just as I hope my successor does.
This is the Kohl’s I shop at… not because I work there but we shopped there prior to me getting an opportunity to work there. I will continue to shop there. I have friends there. As hard as the work was, I always enjoyed working there. We joke, we talk football, we rarely talk politics, and best of all we respect each other. Maybe that is why I work so hard… because Kohl’s is a great place to work. Great management and great teammates. That is rare in retail, at least in my experience.
So, in conclusion… I will take the same work ethic that I had at Kohl’s to my new position at LogicSpeak. It is with that same work ethic that will allow me to succeed at LogicSpeak. I will be able to translate how hard I worked to maintain a department that customers, management and I can be proud of to my job responsibilities at LogicSpeak. I can leave Kohl’s with my head held high. If you need a seasonal or part-time job that you can be proud to work… I highly suggest Kohl’s.
