MSI z390 Godlike Motherboard

Posted on September 29, 2019October 20, 2020 by Michael Molenda

I had to replace a Godlike motherboard in one of my customer’s computers… Did I really want to do that? Of course, I did! I felt like a YouTuber! I never get to unbox such expensive parts… (with the rare exception of Core i9 CPUs, which is what was installed here). This motherboard is approximately…

Dirty Computer

Posted on September 29, 2019October 20, 2020 by Michael Molenda

By far, the dirtiest computer I have ever cleaned… Before… the dirt is thick, it is everywhere. I is disgusting and make me cough as I tried to clean it. This is the back fan. That’s not just dirt. It was almost like it was wet and dirty… This is the motherboard up close. The…

Build 76 – A Major Rebuild

Posted on August 25, 2019July 3, 2023 by Michael Molenda

This was a major rebuild.. only because this is the first one I remember that has a floppy drive connection on the motherboard. Look at this hot mess… we are going to update the components and clean it up. FDD!?! First one of these I have seen in this department except some of the units…

My Favorite Build of 2018

Posted on March 17, 2019July 3, 2023 by Michael Molenda

I was able to build a number of custom machines at Fry’s during 2018. I don’t have an exact number, but there were a lot of them. But a few stood, but this one stood out about all of those…

Alienware Modernization

Posted on October 17, 2018July 3, 2023 by Michael Molenda

So, I was tasked with taking an older Alienware Area 51 desktop.  I called it a behemoth because it was so big and very heavy.  Cases at that time were built almost like they wanted them to last and be indestructible.  Today, not all cases are built that way. I took more pictures than I…

Build 1: Date Unknown – Not my first build

Posted on September 17, 2018July 3, 2023 by Michael Molenda

I didn’t take pictures of many of my builds prior to this one.  However, this is what I consider build 1 because it is the first one I took pictures.  Not a bunch of pictures, but this was the first I took pictures. In my latest builds, I am taking a bunch of pictures. Looks…

Build 20: November 23, 2017 – AMD Threadripper

Posted on September 17, 2018July 3, 2023 by Michael Molenda

Back in November, I did my first and only (to this date) AMD Threadripper build. The CPU package is massive and requires a T8 driver (Could be a T10) to install into the socket.  Luckily, it comes with the tool.  Additionally, this build was water-cooled and there are no AIO [All-in-one] water-coolers that we sell…

Build 37: August 14 – 15, 2018

Posted on August 23, 2018July 3, 2023 by Michael Molenda

Hi readers… yes, back for another post.  This one is from a build I did last week.  This one didn’t go as smoothly as I would have liked, but in the end, the customer got the build he wanted and that makes me happy. Let’s go over the build one step at a time and…

Laptop CPU Cooler Repair

Posted on August 16, 2018October 20, 2020 by Michael Molenda

For this customer’s laptop, it was diagnosed with a thermal issue.  In a laptop, generally, you do not have anything other than a CPU fan and it’s attached heat pipes that are used to draw heat from the components.  In some cases, there are discrete graphics processors thus requiring more cooling.  That is the case…
