The GPU Market is insane…

Here is some sort of major proof on NewEgg…

The Sapphire Pulse RX 560XT: I put one of these in a build for my soon-to-be nephew in November. Paid $299.99 at MicroCenter. Here, it is selling for 1098.97????
The ASUS Dual Radeon RX 5600XT: I bought one for me in early December during the time where it was advised NOT to buy, but I found it for $329.99. Here is is out of stock AND $789.67????
At the time I bought mine, there were other RX 5600XT cards that were selling well above MSRP, but the ASUS card was reasonable. I wanted an MSI variant, but not available for a reasonable price.

These are $300 MSRP cards…. If I wanted to part with my RX 5600XT, I could probably get $500 – $600 for it and fund my gaming laptop that I want, but I also don’t feel good about taking advantage of people. Normally, a used card would go for less than purchased price. But, I just can’t do it.

These are examples of cards I have personally purchased and their current selling prices. Insane. There are other cards that are more expensive that have to be pulling more than these.

This is a terrible time to be building a PC. CPU’s are in a bit of a short supply as well, but not near as bad as GPUs. Research pricing and DO NOT pay more than maybe 5% over MSRP. I feel bad for anybody who is paying these kinds of prices for GPUs.

WHY IS IT LIKE THIS? It’s partly to do with Bitcoin and Etherium miners and partly to do with short supply due to COVID. These cards are made in China but the GPU chips themselves are made in Taiwan. It’s also partly due to scalpers who use bots to buy multiple cards to put on Ebay or other marketplaces in hopes of making huge coin off of them. That’s why I won’t buy from one of these scumbags. It’s not that they have them but it’s the markup…. It’s really beyond capitalism at that point, but extortion. This is happening with Xbox and PS5 and beyond…

This is my my experience with GPU pricing and the sad state of affairs it is right now…
