As if parts of my weekend weren’t frustrating or bad enough, my phone worked itself off of my pocket walking out of the mall on Sunday. I didn’t notice until I got part of the way down the road from the mall. I thought maybe I left it at the Genius Bar at the Apple store or maybe on the counter…
So, I just tried to do my errand and then go home and get Dana to call my phone just in case it was in the truck but just thrown in… so, when I did get home, I rushed in and told Dana “get your phone and call mine so I can see if my phone is in truck.” Her reply, “I have your phone.” “No really… WHAT?”
Apparently, I did lose my phone in the parking lot. A worker from the American Girl store found it on the way out (the mall was closing, that’s why I didn’t go back) after work. She turned it in and the loss-prevention associate at the store found the entry called “my fabulous fiancee” in the contact list (Dana renamed herself in my list. I have a organized way of putting my contacts in and this breaks that, but for once, I thought, “whatever. i will leave it.” and kind of smiled. Good thing I left it…). The associate called the number and got Dana. Said she must be of some importance to the person for whom the phone belongs to. So, Dana jumped up and went to the Mall and retrieved the phone and was home before I got home.
She is a “fabulous fiancee.”
I will find out who turned my phone in and will give her some sort of reward for doing the right thing. Even though, I found out this morning when I actually pulled it out of it’s holder that the front screen was broken… I am very happy to have the phone back.
I may be switching to Sprint because it makes financial sense in the long run for Dana and I to be on the same carrier and Sprint does have an amazing calling/data plan… Maybe tomorrow, I will be blogging about my new phone. I have narrowed it down to: HTC Hero (based on Android) or Palm Pre. I am not a big fan of Google, but the Hero is higher rated than the Pre, but the Pre plays better with the Mac…
So, anyway, I really appreciate it when people do the right thing. There really are still good people out there. Sometimes, it feels like it is getting harder to find them.
A tale of our day… October 18, 2009…
We got off the MARTA around 12 or so… and had to walk probably close to a half-mile or maybe more to get to the walker check-in… so we were walking before the walk!
Check-n
We took a little time to look at some of the AIDS quilts that they had on display. It’s pretty sobering.

The walk didn’t actually start until 2PM but there were a set of opening ceremonies. They included speakers such as Mayor Shirley Franklin and some cabaret singers…

The Starting Line
Finally past the starting line. Getting ready to walk. There were 8000 registered walkers. That is a lot of people. We had no idea that it would be that many people. Very impressive.
The Mass of Walkers
The walk took us from Piedmont Park (10th Street Side) though midtown on Peachtree to The Prado and back to the park (Piedmont side). It was a very easy walk because it was more of a stroll than a walk. They had plenty of checkpoints with water, vitamin water, and porable toilets for the participants. I am sure the runners didn’t need those 😉

Nice house!
House for sale!
Finally getting close to the end now… we can see the park again…
Not sure what to think of this guy!
There is the finish line! Yay!
The Finish Line!
And we finished. 5k is not that long of a walk especially at the slow pace that we were going. It was not a walk-race, but just nice walk. During the walk, we stopped twice for refreshments and once for Dana’s “charlie horse.” She was fine to finish, just a bit of a pain ;). From start to finish, it was just over 90 minutes. Was a great and rewarding time. I would definitely do it again and hope to raise more money next time.
We rested for a bit and then walked back to MARTA to go home, stopping off at Johnny’s Pizza to eat…
Well, what can I say? This is the closest to seeing the Beatles many of us will ever get to see. I am not counting seeing Paul McCartney or Ringo in concert (though, that is obviously more exciting…). Dana and I got there early enough to get a look at the Fox, which is amazing. That building is beautiful. We spent some time looking around.
Outside the Fox
More outside the Fox
The show started at about 8PM… There were basically 5 section of the show…
1.) The Ed Sullivan Show.
The band had the same stage look as the Ed Sullivan show set. They were wearing the suits and had the moptops that the Beatles were famous for in the early part of their career… They played many of the songs that defined them during that era including “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and “I Saw Her Standing There” and “Help.”
The Ed Sullivan Show
2.) The Shea Stadium Show.
This was probably the largest crowd ever at the old Shea Stadium… featuring songs from albums like “A Hard Day’s Night.”

3.) Sgt Peppers Era.
They had the Sgt Peppers outfits and everything… that was the most amazing part of the show for me (as Sgt Peppers is my second fave Beatles album…). Of course they played several songs from Sgt Pepper’s and The White Album.
Sgt Peppers. The picture is blurry, sorry!
4.) Flower Power
This waw the “peace and love” section of the show. If I remember right, they played some Lennon songs like “Imagine” and “Give Peace a Chance.” Along with songs like “All You Need is Love.”
Flower Power!
Accoutic set (While My Guitar Gently Weeps)
5.) Abbey Road
The end of the Beatles era and the end of the show… This included songs such as “Get Back” and “Come Together.”
Abbey Road
Encores… of course there was an encore, and a pretty long one, too…
This is when they played “Let it Be” and “Hey Jude” with quite a bit of audience participation.
Taking a bow!
What Was truly amazing about the show was how they represented different eras of the Beatles career, not only with the change of sets, but change of outfits and looks… Each of the Beatles transformed from the moptops to being very individual over the course of their time with the Beatles and that is, I think, a big part of why they “broke up.” They were just much different people at the end than at the beginning. It’s not all bad they parted… some amazing music some from each of them individually…
Oh, how I hate driving in the rain. Some days are worse than others. Some people seem to get it and some people don’t. My two biggest complaint is…
No lights on when driving in the rain. How it is rampant. Are people that forgetful or not know that it is state law in many states. It should be common sense and common courtesy. It is necessary for one’s personal safety as it is far easier to see a vehicle in the rain with their lights on than without. I have pictures to prove it, but I can’t upload them now. I will. But here is what the Georgia Driver’s Manual has to say about it (pages 54-55):
Use Headlights Properly
Use high-beam headlights only when driving in rural areas and when other cars are not nearby. You must use your headlights between one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise; at any time when it is raining; or when visibility is limited.
You should dim (lower) your headlights when:
If only people would at least comply with this… maybe I would feel a bit more safe when driving in the rain.
