What a year it has been for our family. On my mother’s side, we lost my Aunt Ozena and my cousin Syb. Then on my father’s side, we lost my cousin, Nathan.
Aunt Ozena was, I thought, going to make it to 100 (1925-2022). She was 96 when she passed. All of my mother’s siblings are now gone from this earth. My uncle Columbus passed in 2000 just a month before my Dad.
My cousin, Syb, was Uncle Columbus and Aunt Bert’s daughter. She was 81 (1941-2022) when she passed. That’s the same age that my mother was when she passed. Aunt Ozena, Syb, Aunt Bert, and my mom were all very close. Now, they can all be together in Heaven with my dad and my Uncle Columbus. So much much loss on my mother’s side.
The most shocking is the untimely death of my cousin, Nathan. He was but 37. I do have memories of Nathan from a trip or two to Seattle in the 90’s and early 2000’s. I actually haven’t been since 2006. That was the year that my Grandfather died. He died the month before I was to fly out. He was 90 (1916-2006). All of my family members have lived long lives, but Note’s was cut so short. That’s why I (and I’m sure everyone) am so shocked. I really have no words, but I do have a pocket knife that I bought from him on one of my trips. We played music. He had a set of drums but also played guitar. I remember playing Green Day (I was the weak link here…) with me on drums and he on guitar. He was in like middle school and I was in my 20’s. It was really cool and fun.
I am the worst at keeping in touch with my family. Be it my family in Huntsville or my family in Seattle. I guess I should try harder to keep in touch. With all of the technology, surely I can find a way to keep in touch even if it is the old technology of a phone or even a written letter.
Anyway, those are our family updates….
