Getting There

We had to take MARTA (it was a “car-less” event) to get there. Piedmont Park wouldn’t have enough parking for everybody, anyway. I suppose we could have parked closer than the nearest MARTA station, North Springs, but it is the most convenient. Getting there was not a big deal as the trains weren’t that full at 2:30PM. But we got to the Midtown station and walked to the park and got in the long line at about 4… and were seated on the ground at about 5:15 (that’s about when I tweeded about it).

II. The SHOW!

It started about 7pm with the opening act, The Script. They were actually pretty good. Not exactly my musical tastes to buy the cd (however, Dana probably will, so I’ll get it by default) but I wouldn’t turn the radio station if they were on AND I listened to radio for music…

Then about 8:30, it was time for McCartney to hit the stage… and it was everything I wanted in a show. He had more energy than I thought… he moved around and was very spry for a 67-year old man… hell, for a 45-year old man or even me and I am just 36-years old…

Here is the setlist (I believe it is the same setlist as previous tour stops. I got this from a review of the CitiField show in NYC):

Drive My Car
Jet
Only Mama Knows
Flaming Pie
Got To Get You Into My Life
Let Me Roll It *with Hendrix’s “Foxy Lady” mixed in at the end*
Highway
Long And Winding Road
My Love
Blackbird
Here Today
Dance Tonight
Calico Skies
Mrs. Vanderbilt
Eleanor Rigby
Sing The Changes
Band On The Run
Back In The USSR
I’m Down
Something
I’ve Got A Feeling
Paperback Writer
A Day In The Life – Give Peace A Chance
Let It Be
Live And Let Die
Hey Jude
Encore 1:
Day Tripper
Lady Madonna
I Saw Her Standing There

Encore 2:
Yesterday
Helter Skelter
Get Back
Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band/The End

I admit that I don’t know much of this post-Beatles catalog, but I really enjoyed every song. Time for me to start buying some of this Wings and solo stuff…

I could go on an on about the show but I can sum it up like this: AMAZING. I can’t really describe how amazing the show was and how I felt about seeing McCartney live. I have missed him twice before in Atlanta and I wasn’t about to miss him again. I am so glad I did. I am very happy that I was able to see the show with Dana. We share a love for the Beatles, so that makes the show even more special…

From Playing "Jet"

His big wardrobe change... 🙂

One thing: it came a nice pouring rain about halfway through the show. It raining and a bit miserable… but no amount of rain could get me to leave… not even a monsoon… (though I imagine the show would have been stopped at that point.) My tour book got just about completely destroyed… but that’s ok. It is still around and I am proud of it’s battle wounds! 😉

Playing "Live and Let Die"

There are many more pictures of the show I took (no cameras were allowed, but they didn’t exactly search for them…)… Enjoy.

III. Getting Home

As you can imagine, there were a boat-load of people trying to get on the trains (once we finally got to the Arts Center Station). We kind of followed the crowd and ended up at a different station than we got off of getting there… The trains, by the time they got to us were packed like sardines.. so, I suggested to Dana that we take the southbound train a few stations south and get on the trains before they get packed… so, we did and it worked. We got good seats on the train and were able to rest our weary feet… We left the house around 2:15PM and got home around 1:45AM (after getting some Krystals… we were really kind of hungry…) Nearly 12 hours… it was worth every minute and every minor pain that we felt or the walks… I would do it again tonight if he were playing here again.

Yes… it was the living legend, Sir James Paul McCartney… and what an amazing show it was. It is hard to take it all in even now as it hasn’t even been 24 hours… but I’ll start with part one… … Continue reading →

[10

post-405","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-music
["GET
