This issue came about because of myself. I went to remove my air filter to clean it. I have a K&N high performance air filter and it only needs to be replaced at something like 1,000,000 miles but does need to be cleaned at 100,000. Well, my car is 7 years old with only 55,000 miles on it. I noticed my gas mileage had dipped in recent months. I finally had the time to clean it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The outcome of that was that I ended up breaking a “T-Junction”. This particular part is necessary (as they all are…) for cooling the turbo. The bottom section of the part goes to the turbo. The T-Junction is where it connects to the coolant reservoir (on the left).. This part is brittle and there are many forum posts where these broke without outside force. I just accelerated the inevitable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, I ordered a new part. The part came with all new hoses attached to a new T-Junction. Probably a good thing. Removal of just the T-Junction would be more difficult that it’s worth. Replacing the entire part was much better and easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new part is on the left. Since coolant runs through that hose, I had to purchase some additional coolant. While I am at it, need to fill up my windshield wiper fluid.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

This one was very tough to remove. I tried cutting the hose and I still had trouble getting it removed… but I finally did…<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

New part is installed and is NOT leaking!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

This thing is brittle. The original break is to the right. The break facing up here happened when removing the old part. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

In the midst of completing this repair, I broke this vacuum line. Taping it did not work…<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Today, I finally figured out a fix to my broken vacuum line. The dealer recommended this (and I had thought of this prior, but thought a new part would be better…) fix and I was able to execute the fix…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After many issues, most attributed to me and my klutzy-ness…. Everything thing is fixed. I took it on a small ride and there was no loss of power. The rubber tubing was so tight to get it on, I doubt the vacuum of this line will be enough to blow the tubing off and render the car (basically) powerless..<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, yay me! I can fix things. I just need to try to be more careful, though I felt like I was taking precautions in trying not to break anything further…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
